Concours d’Elegance

Sunday 13th August 2017

A message from the Chief Judge

It’s that time of year again and I would like to invite you all to our Club’s 2017 Concours d’ Elegance.

Our Concours d’ Elegence is one of our, Mercedes-Benz Club of Queensland’s, highlights of the year where our cars come out and become the true Stars that they are.

I have the honour of being Chief Judge of our Annual Concours D’Elegence. Between 2007 and 2014 I was just eager to help on the day as a category judge, and in 2015 I was asked if I could assist as our Chief Judge. Our Concours has come a long way since I joined the club 18 years ago and I certainly have learnt much more than I had ever expected.  As a club, we rely on our volunteers in all sorts of roles, and without our judges and volunteers for Concours, the day would not be what it has become.  Time ceaselessly marches on, and last year our Concours evolved a little further as some of our latest showroom models became eligible to enter our some categories. Under the rules, cars must have be at least three years of age to be eligible.

For our Star Class in 2017, we will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of AMG’s association with Mercedes-Benz. Who would have known how large AMG’s presence would have grown to 50 years ago? Our club has a significant number of AMG owners with models spanning the decades. If anyone has an early AMG model, this is certainly a worthy occasion to allow us all to admire and enjoy your treasure. I for one am expecting a large showing of the AMG models, and I am sure that this 2017 Concours Star Class is one not to be missed.

As always, all class awards and trophies will be published in advance but the announcement of the perpetual awards will be withheld until the presentation luncheon.

A published outline of the Rules of the Concours is attached as a download below and provides guidelines for competitors for the day and demystifies what is judged for entrants. We also encourage our fellow interstate Club Members wanting to bring their shining stars back to Queensland and be part of our Concours.  Whether you have an AMG or a 180E, an Adenauer or a A-Class, just remember, we all share a passion for the same Silver Star we would love to share that same passion with you on OUR day in August. The day is not all about the trophies; it’s about the pride you share with your fellow club members in the Silver Star you have chosen to drive, so I hope to see you and your vehicle there.
